Kinnettles Castle

Kinnettles Castle is a beautiful property in the heart of the Angus countryside is a magnificent example of Victorian Scottish architecture. As you approach Kinnettles the gravelled drive rises up to the main house and the sight ahead of the grand scale and charm of the mansion house is something to behold.
There are nine bedrooms in the main house and a further two in the Gate Lodge, luxurious and spacious for your comfort and to make your stay an enjoyable and memorable experience. The stunning bedrooms are a contemporary statement in black and white and this is reflected throughout Kinnettles Castle.

Outside, the countryside views are magnificent, with rolling lawns sweeping down to woodland areas, surrounding the house with a peacefulness and tranquillity.

Location

Just 20 minutes from Dundee and 70 minutes from Edinburgh, the local area offers a wealth of things to do and activities. Guests can enjoy clay pigeon shooting within the grounds or alternatively, can leave the estate to experience a variety of outdoor activities including shooting, horse riding, fly fishing, golf at nearby Carnoustie and St Andrews, motor racing at Knockhill, steeple chasing at Perth and international rugby at Murrayfield.
The nearest town is Forfar, just 4 miles away, famous for Strathmore Springs mineral water. The ancient town is home to a vast amount of historical interest, dating back to the Roman Invasions, when a succession of Roman camps were established North of Forfar. The town also has numerous shops and a leisure centre nearby.
Close to the Angus Glens, there are plenty of outdoor pursuits to entertain guests at Kinnettles Castle, with the annual walking festival in the summer a favourite. There are five glens to explore, each with unique characteristics and besides the popular hillwalking there are plenty of other activities on offer from game shooting and fishing to museums and cathedrals.
The village of Glamis is close by and is perhaps best known historically for its association with the William Shakespeare play MacBeth. It is a pretty village and is also known for the fairy-tale like Glamis Castle, where Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother spent much of her childhood. The castle and grounds are open to visitors and offer a relaxing day out.

The History

This beautiful property in the heart of the Angus countryside is a magnificent example of Victorian Scottish architecture.
At the turn of the 14th century, King Robert III granted the land to Alexander Strachan. The land changed hands a number of times over the centuries and records indicate a plain, two storey house sat on the land, with a dated stone giving the year of 1678 in the wall opposite the dovecot.
In 1802, John Aberdein Harvey built a new mansion on the land, surrounded by fine parkland. John Harvey was a schoolmaster’s son who had made his money in the plantations of the West Indies and his own son went to India with the East India Company and became a civil judge there, later returning to Kinnettles.
The estate was brought in 1864 by James Paterson who removed the first and second house and built the present mansion that we know today as Kinnettles.
