The History
Plas Cilybebyll has a recorded history of an estate and its inhabitants from the beginning of the 15th century. In 1838 the estate was the largest in the local district. The main façade of the house results from a major amount of remodelling circa 1840 creating a south-facing Victorian style property with an ode to a French Chateau. The works were undertaken principally by a Henry Leach who administered the estate for the early 19th Century. Frances Edward Leach inherited the estate on the death of his father in 1848 and changed his name to Lloyd in 1849 by Royal Charter in order not to forfeit his inheritance.
The Lloyd family were in residence in the late 19th century and Herbert Lloyd a prominent, well liked and respected local figure was presented with an oil portrait for his contribution to various committees, which still hangs in the drawing room.
This fine country residence has more recently been sympathetically extended to provide modern facilities without disrupting the original character of the house.
